Fans will want to be extra vigilant about story spoilers for the next week, with retailers like Best Buy accidentally shipping copies of Cyberpunk 2077 to customers ahead of time. Concerns regarding spoilers first arose a couple of weeks ago when images of the game's retail versions appearing at warehouses surfaced online. Of course, it did not take long for someone to smuggle a copy home for themselves and begin streaming some of the role-playing game's opening segments online.
Games press and a number of content creators have been receiving copies of Cyberpunk 2077 for review, as well. This naturally means spoiler-specific details are more likely to continue making the rounds online. With that in mind, CD Projekt RED recently took to Twitter asking reviewers and streamers to abide by the embargo that ends next week on December 9 at 12:00 pm CET/3:00 am PST. The hope is that as many players as possible will be able to enjoy a spoiler-free experience once the title finally arrives.
Unfortunately, fans are likely to find themselves ducking and dodging Cyberpunk 2077-related details even more now. A Twitter post from Twitch streamer Cohh Carnage claims that Best Buy accidentally sent a copy of the game's Collector's Edition for the PS4 ahead of its scheduled ship date. There's no telling how many other customers received early copies of the game from the retailer. Again, those interested in avoiding anything about the game would do best to be careful online for the next several days.
Fortunately, the window for potential spoilers to spread before launch isn't as long as that of other titles, such as this year's The Last of Us Part II. And everything that is known about Cyberpunk 2077, thus far, indicates it boasts a narrative that players will most definitely want to experience first-hand, completely void of any outside influence that may tarnish it.
Once the game arrives later next week, there will still be plenty more Cyberpunk 2077 content to look forward to. Most notably, CD Projekt RED recently delayed the reveal of the RPG's DLC. Such details are now on track to go live on an unspecified date after launch. In addition, information regarding the multiplayer component, which is considered more of a standalone, is slated to surface sometime in the first quarter of next year.
Cyberpunk 2077 launches digitally and at retail on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on December 10. The eagerly-anticipated RPG will also run on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S via backward compatibility.
