There was plenty of hope heading into this season for the Texas football program, especially with a loaded group at the skill positions coming back, which included the likes of redshirt junior wide receiver Joshua Moore. Texas’ leading returning wideout this year was Moore. And it looked like he could be part of a seriously potent trio at the wide receiver position that also includes freshman Xavier Worthy and redshirt sophomore Jordan Whittington.
That quickly came off the rails, though, as this trio at wideout for the Longhorns will only have one-third of itself heading into the Kansas Jayhawks game this coming weekend. Whittington went down earlier this season with a long-term injury. And Moore is now in the NCAA Transfer Portal following roughly three seasons with the program.
It was an up and down run for Moore with the Longhorns. He was essentially suspended for one season under former Texas head coach Tom Herman during the 2019 season. But he has a really solid 2020 campaign during the COVID-19 pandemic. He was one of the best skill position players for the Longhorns last season, registering 30 catches for 472 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.

The connection between Moore and this new coaching staff just didn’t look to be the right one. His production slowed down this season. He wasn’t running routes as effectively, had more drops, and less contested catches. It feels like Moore thinks he is best suited to take his talents elsewhere following a blow-up with new head coach Steve Sarkisian in practice last week.
