More PR's to be had and Season-Best Marks Continue on a Busy Friday for Wolves - WOU Athletics

MONMOUTH, Ore./EUGENE, Ore. – In what started out as best marks during the WOU hosted Pop Up Meet in the morning, ended with more solid results at the Oregon Relays for the Western Oregon University men's and women's track and field teams during a busy Friday.

Hunter Hutton improved his personal-best at the Oregon Relays and continued to push towards the top-five in program history (currently sixth) in the men's 1,500 when he posted a time of 3:48.89 to come in fourth. Already a provisional mark set during the John Knight Twilight, Hutton's new time currently has him ranked 26th nationally in Division II.

Hutton was joined by Justin Crosswhite at the Oregon Relays in the 1,500 and it was a personal-best day in the event for Crosswhite as well. Crosswhite crossed with a time of 3:51.06 to come in seventh and is approaching a provisional mark. His new time currently ranks 44th nationally in Division II. Hutton and Crosswhite were the only two competitors in the field that weren't Division I, as 15 total entered the field.

Caitlin Heldt posted a new personal-best in the women's 1,500 during the WOU Pop Up Meet coming in at 4:49.05 to win the event. Heldt won the event by almost two seconds. Lindie Larson was close to her PR in the event crossing in fifth. Tresai McCarver set a new PR in the event coming in seventh. Kaylin Cantu rounded out the results for the Wolves coming in ninth.

Maliyah Thompson collected a pair of season-best marks in both events on Friday running in the women's 100-meter hurdles and 100-meter. Thompson crossed in first in both events, posting a top time of 13.07 in the 100-meter and then a first-place time of 15.37 in the 100-meter hurdles. It was her first time competing since the second WOU Tri Meet on Mar. 23.

Wyatt Smith put up another season-best time in the men's 800-meter tallying a time of 1:57.17 to come in second. He has run sub-1:59.00 in all three 800's he has entered this year. Timothy Rambo was right behind Smith in the event and set a new season-best with a time of 1:57.69 to cross in third. Next WOU finishers behind Smith and Rambo was Trey Reed in fifth, Dominic Giordano in sixth and Matthew Schenk in seventh.

Bailey Smith led the way for the Wolves in the men's 1,500 setting a new season-best crossing at 4:01.11 to come in fourth. Giordano also set a new season-best in the event crossing in fifth with a time of 4:04.06. Adam Alnazer was right behind in sixth with a time of 4:05.15. Running the event for the first time this outdoor season, Miguel Villar had a strong debut posting a time of 4:05.32 to come in seventh. Dustyn McKenney set a new season-best in the event with a time of 4:07.00 to come in eighth. Talon Aguilar rounded out the results for the Wolves coming in ninth.

Moana Gianotti continued to improve her season-best marks in the women's shot put and discus. Gianotti won the shot put hitting a distance of 41-8.75. She added a top season throw in the discus of 140-7 to also come in first. Gianotti won the hammer throw as well hitting a mark of 144-9. Krystal Andres finished second behind Gianotti in the discus setting a new season-best mark of 116-10. Liliana Lyness-Morales set a new season-best in the shot put hitting a mark of 35-5.25 to come in second behind Gianotti. She also placed second in the hammer.

The Wolves also had three others competing in the women's 100-hurdles with Ana Popchock coming in second (15.56), Michaela Yonkman in third (16.32) and Rilee Carstensen in fourth (16.69).

Aaron Hanible won the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.40. He also placed second in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.46. Deshaun Stevens ran the 400-meter hurdles for the first time this outdoor season and crossed in fourth.

Eli Nafziger was close to a season-best in the men's 100-meter when he posted a time of 11.95 to finish fourth.

Yonkman led the Wolves in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a first-place time of 1:05.71. Popchock came in second (1:06.49) and Madeline Lambing crossed in fourth.

Shayla Solomon and Ashley Hauger competed in the women's 800 with Solomon coming in second (2:23.82) and Hauger in third.

Karsten Collins set season-best marks in the men's discus and shot put. He hit a distance of 45-1 in the shot put to come in second and hit a mark of 142-7 to win the discus. He also came in fourth in the hammer (148-6).

Owen Collins set a new season-best in the men's discus when he hit a mark of 138-2 to come in second. He won the shot put with a distance of 48-2.75 and came in third in the hammer with a distance of 150-7.

Sam Cole won the men's hammer throw with a distance of 161-1 and came in third in the shot put (43-9).

Cedar Davis-Frankfort ran in the men's 10,000.

WOU will send several student-athletes to the Linfield Invitational tomorrow (Saturday) that begins at 10 a.m. Along with the second day of the Oregon Relays that will start at 10:45 a.m.
