Tracking severe ingredients that may make for an active 24 hours - ABC17News.com

TODAY: Tuesday is a Weather Alert Day. Warm air continues to move in this morning to set us up for a Tuesday that's even warmer than the 82 degree day we recorded at COU on Monday. Temperatures will warm back into the mid-to-upper 80s by this afternoon thanks to features that will also bring us a chance for severe storms this afternoon and evening. As a warm front lifts through the region this morning, we may see a spot shower or storm near Macon or Paris near or just after sunrise. This activity will pass on without much issue. Our severe threat today comes in two waves. Round number one comes around the heat of the day, during the late afternoon and early evening. Scattered storms are not guaranteed but should they develop this afternoon, there will be a threat for tornadoes, very large hail, and damaging winds. This round is low-confidence, but high-risk as this is our best chance for strong to long-track tornadoes. Again, it's entirely possible that a stable atmosphere prevents this entirely. Expect enough sunshine to keep sunscreen and sunglasses handy.

TONIGHT: Round two arrives late in the evening, towards the overnight hours. This round may start as soon as 11 p.m. if storms can develop ahead of the front. With the same issue as before, we may have to wait until the cold front passes to trigger storms. If this is the case, expect a passage of storms more so in a midnight to 5 a.m. window. Storms along the front will carry a severe threat with less high end potential. Still, spin up tornadoes, hail and damaging winds are possible along this line, with likelihood decreasing with eastward extent. For more details on this, read our latest Weather Alert Day Blog.

EXTENDED: Rain chances end sharply behind the cold front, with most of us dry by 7 a.m. Temperatures are cooler on Wednesday, with a high expected in the upper 50s with sunshine behind the rain. Sunshine, with a high near 60 is forecast Wednesday, with a continued warm up into the mid-60s on Friday, and 70s expected on Saturday. Sunshine rounds out the week, but a few extra clouds, and slim rain chances are forecast late Sunday night and early Monday morning. Right now, rain chances focus only on Sunday evening, so it's still possible that we see a mostly dry Easter, but still Saturday is the safer day at the moment for scheduling those egg hunts.
