We could all use a drink right now, and your local bartenders are here to help.
We asked several of our area's bartenders for their simple cocktail recipes that you probably can manage to make from home amid this time of social distancing, when we can't belly up to the bar counter in our favorite bar or restaurant.

Here are some of their recommendations.
Boozy Chocolate Milk
by Allie Traylor, bartender at El Chico
Ingredients: 2 ounces of Baileys, 1 ounce of Kahlua, milk, chocolate syrup
How to make: Pour two ounces of Baileys into a cup of milk. Add chocolate syrup and an ounce of Kahlua. Serve it over ice if you desire.
Allie’s take: It’s kind of a lazy person way to drink, but it’s a fun way. It’s easy to sip on and nothing that’s too intense. If you’re going to be curled up binge-watching something, it’s a perfect way to relax.
Breakfast in a Glass
by Alyssa Tuttle, bartender at Brackins Blues Club in Maryville
Ingredients: Can of PBR Hard Coffee, one shot of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey
How to make: Grab a frosted pint glass from your freezer and toss in a couple ice cubes. Pour in the PBR Hard Coffee, and add a shot of whiskey.
Alyssa’s take: It is delicious. It tastes like an adult Ensure in the morning. It’s sweet. It’s amazing. It’s not super strong. It doesn’t taste like liquor. It’s something yummy and a nice treat. It makes the best breakfast milkshake.
Daiquiri
by Lynzi Mars, bartender/server at BucketHead Tavern; bartender at Concourse
Ingredients: 2 ounces of light rum, 1 ounce of lime juice, ½ ounce of simple syrup, splash of dark rum
How to make: Shake ingredients in a shaker with ice. Strain and serve over fresh ice.
Lynzi's take: Any citrusy drink is really nice for the summertime or springtime. Anything to cool you down outdoors. Even if you can’t be outside with other people, I like to sit on the patio myself and have something cold that’s nice to drink. It’s very classic, very simple and really, really good.
Bonus tip from Lynzi: If you want to add extra zest, add a couple blackberries, either muddled or straight on top of your daiquiri.
Adult Dole Whip
Ashley Caruso, bartender at Urban Bar
Ingredients: A big scoop of vanilla ice cream, four ounces of pineapple juice, two cups of frozen pineapple, two ounces of your favorite rum (coconut rum recommended)
How to make: Add all the ingredients to a blender and blend into a thick drink.
Ashley’s take: The Dole Whip is one of the most popular treats at Disney World. This is a Dole Whip for adults. I think it’s perfect because Disney is closed right now, and a lot of people are devastated, so they can bring Disney to themselves.
Pirate Grog
by Alyssa Tuttle, Brackins Blues Club in Maryville
Ingredients: As much spiced rum as your heart desires, lemon and lime juice, orange juice, soda water
How to make: Pour spiced rum on ice. Squeeze in lemon and lime juice or add juice from a bottle. Add a splash of orange juice and soda water.
Alyssa's take: It’s going to be mostly spiced rum and soda water, but then with your squeezed limes and lemons, a little additive of OJ or pineapple – really whatever you can find in the house that you can throw in there. My favorite rum to make it with is Gosling’s Black Seal rum, but any spiced rum is good.
South Side
by Kevin Armstrong, bartender at Peter Kern Library
Ingredients: 2 ounces of gin, 1 ounce of fresh-squeezed lemon juice, ¾ ounce of simple syrup, mint
How to make: Add the gin, squeezed lemon juice and simple syrup to a shaker with ice. Muddle mint on the side of your shaker that doesn’t have the liquid or just cut up and add. Shake all ingredients, fine strain and serve up in a martini glass.
Kevin’s take: It’s said to be Al Capone’s drink. It’s kind of a variation of a Bee’s Knees or a variation of a gin fizz or even a mojito. It’s a really nice, refreshing spring cocktail. It goes really good with a botanical gin.
Thai Fighter
by Allie Traylor, bartender at El Chico
Ingredients: 1 ounce of tequila (silver or gold), 1 ounce of white rum (or coconut rum if you prefer), passion fruit juice, fresh-squeezed lime juice
How to make: Make as a mixed drink over ice. Pour in one ounce of each liquor. Add passion fruit juice, and squeeze in some lime juice.
Allie’s take: It’s usually my specialty. I make it at El Chico all the time. It’s a sipping cocktail, especially around summertime. It’s super easy to make.
Watermelon Margarita
by Alejandra Villanueva, bartender at Lonesome Dove
Ingredients: 2 ounces of tequila, 1 ounce of triple sec, 3 ounces sour mix, 1 ounce of watermelon puree
How to make: Put watermelon slices in a blender, and blend until smooth. If you desire a smoother consistency, fine strain to filter out the pulp. Combine all ingredients into a shaker. Shake until cold, strain and serve in a glass over fresh ice. Add a watermelon cube for garnish.
Alejandra's take: It’s very refreshing. It’s a cocktail that goes really good with patio weather. It’s light and crisp.
Bonus tip from Alejandra: Make your own sour mix with equal parts of lemon juice, lime juice and simple syrup (1:1 ratio of water to sugar dissolved) and 1/3 portion of orange juice.
