Retailer does not explain closure, but county spokeswoman says government is aware of coronavirus case at electronics store
Best Buy at Crossgates Mall will be closed until Monday.
Times Union file photoGUILDERLAND — The Best Buy electronics store at Crossgates Mall, which abruptly closed on Thursday, will be reopen on Monday morning, according to the company. And while Best Buy has not explained the abrupt closure, an Albany County official said there was a positive coronavirus case at the store.
“Nothing is more important to us than the safety of our employees and customers, so we’ve decided to temporarily close in-store shopping at our Crossgates Mall store. We plan to re-open on Monday morning, August 31st,” Best Buy spokeswoman Claire Larson said in an email.
“In the meantime, customers can still pick up online orders at the door and we are of course ready to serve you on BestBuy.com or on the Best Buy app.”
Larson didn’t say whether an employee of the store had tested positive for COVID-19. But Albany County spokeswoman Mary Rozak said they were aware of a positive case at the store.
Rozak, however, added that the county did not close the store, nor have they had any discussions with the retailer.
Located at Crossgates Mall, Best Buy has its own entrance and exit to the outside parking lot as well as an interior door.
Crossgates, like other indoor malls, had been closed from March to mid-July due to the pandemic.
Officials from Crossgates did not return a request for comment early Friday.
