With each passing month, Netflix adds all kinds of new shows to its platform. At this point, there are hundreds upon hundreds of TV series to choose from—and plenty of those programs have come out in 2021 alone. Some capture the Netflix audience in huge numbers, while most of them fade from our collective memory altogether.
Which begs the question: which shows have stood out the most? What have been the truly most viral programs in Netflix’s library? What TV series have been deemed the best ones available in 2021?
Unfortunately, there’s no definitive way to know. Netflix keeps a tight wrap on its numbers. And because Netflix gains more and more subscribers each passing month, it can be difficult to truly gauge which TV shows have captured more of the Netflix audience than any other.
That was until Netflix introduced its Top 10 list. Those charts allowed me to construct a Top 10 formula that assigns points based on a show’s ranking each day. Over time, I keep track of each show’s total score to see which ones have consistently performed the best. The beauty of this system is that it puts every program on an even playing field. So no matter how many Netflix subscribers there are, each series works with the same point threshold.
I updated those rankings throughout 2020, which resulted in this year-end list.
And now I’m doing the same thing for 2021. At the end of each month, I will update the yearly rankings in an article. So for this story, we will focus on which programs have dominated the first two months of the year.
Let’s first look at how the rankings worked out in February. In January, Bridgerton completely ran away with the won, churning out 289 points of the maximum available 310 points. In February, however, as Bridgerton has become less and less popular, the race has been much tighter:
- Firefly Lane - 189 points
- iCarly - 155 points
- CoComelon - 133 points
- Bridgerton - 132 points
- Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel - 128 points
- Good Girls - 94 points
- Behind Her Eyes - 93 points
- The Sinner - 90 points
- Jenni Rivera: Mariposa de Barrio - 90 points
- Go, Dog. Go! - 69 points
Firefly Lane has truly been the breakout hit of the month. Since its premiere on Feb. 3, the Katherine Heigl program has spent every single day (24 total days now) on the Top 10 charts. That included a seven-day streak in first place.
The other big hit has been iCarly, which didn’t dip below the third place position during its 19-day run until today.
Now onto the yearly rankings. Up to this point in 2021, according to my system, these are the 25 best TV shows on Netflix:
- Bridgerton - 421 points
- CoComelon - 246 points
- Firefly Lane - 189 points
- Jenni Rivera: Mariposa de Barrio - 182 points
- Henry Danger - 161 points
- Cobra Kai - 157 points
- iCarly - 155 points
- Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer - 153 points
- Fate: The Winx Saga - 136 points
- Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel - 128 points
- L.A.’s Finest - 110 points
- Go, Dog. Go! - 106 points
- Lupin - 103 points
- Good Girls - 94 points
- Behind Her Eyes - 93 points
- The Sinner - 90 points
- Chilling Adventures of Sabrina - 60 points
- History of Swear Words - 51 points
- Gabby’s Dollhouse - 51 points
- Bling Empire - 49 points
- Surviving Death - 46 points

Bridgerton still stands far and above the rest of the competition. So far, the Shonda Rhimes program has captured 56 of the 57 days available in 2021 on the Top 10 charts, with 12 of those days spent in the first place position. On the all-time charts, Bridgerton currently ranks in third place.
Not far behind in 2021, however, is CoComelon. The children’s program owns the record for the longest Top 10 streak with 148 days (a record that dates back to August 2020) and currently owns the most score ever with 987 points. While the show fell off the charts for a brief period of time, CoComelon has started up a brand new streak and has been featured on the charts for 32 straight days now.
The only other shows that are currently still making significant rises up the charts are Jenni Rivera: Mariposa de Barrio, iCarly and Firefly Lane. I’ll be paying close attention to those programs moving forward.
