What’s the best city in America for people with disabilities? A new ranking is designed to answer that question.

The top city on the list is Overland Park, Kan. That’s followed by Scottsdale, Ariz., St. Louis, Minneapolis and Denver.

The distinction from the personal-finance website WalletHub is based on an analysis of over 180 cities using 34 metrics of disability friendliness.

Cities were evaluated across three broad categories — economy, quality of life and health care. Certain factors like the employment rate and median earnings for people with disabilities, the percentage of residents who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and the population of people with disabilities were given extra weight.

Other criteria that figured into the ranking included the effectiveness of the state’s Medicaid programs as well as the cost and availability of in-home care services and medical care.

The analysis is based on data from the government, disability nonprofits and other sources.

Ranking last on the list is Gulfport, Miss. Other low performers include Providence, R.I., Bridgeport and New Haven, Conn. and Tallahassee, Fla.
