Some dishes, like pizza, are best enjoyed when they are made with simple ingredients. Now, a chef who made the quintessential Italian flatbread with ingredients worth $2,000 (approximately Rs 1.6 lakh) is facing the ire of netizens.
In a video, Brooke Baevsky, a Los Angeles-based private chef, shows how she shops for ingredients like organic figs, “an entire line of adaptogenic mushrooms”, organic almonds, “sprouted gluten-free flour blends”, a range of oils, and two water bottles worth $30 dollars each (approximately Rs 2,400). She buys these ingredients from Erewhon, an upscale supermarket chain in LA.
In addition to getting these ingredients, she also unpacks organic manuka honey imported from New Zealand and a jar of Caviar from Caviar Mermaid. Further in the video, she prepares the pizza dough with a mix of collagen powers and other wellness supplements like fulvic acid drops. She substitutes cheese with almond ricotta and tops the “pizza” with gold flakes.
Many people roasted the chef for unnecessarily complicating a simple dish with overpriced ingredients. An Instagram user commented, “This doesn’t even look like a nice pizza it’s straigh up wasting money for the sake of it. Put all those beauty powders in a smoothie if you want them so bad and get some nice Italian pizza. Or go to Italy…”.
Another person wrote, “Truly wondering, as a chef, what’s the point of using this water specifically? 60$ of water for a pizza dough is beyond anything I could imagine. Even tho I know tap water in LA is gross, but how this specific very expensive water is affecting the dough?”.
