Whether your next vacation is far in the future due to the coronavirus pandemic or you’re looking to self-quarantine in a New England state under the terms of a travel advisory, USA Today readers can help you narrow down your hotel options.

On Friday, USA Today revealed its list of the best hotels in America, with a panel of experts choosing 20 nominees across 20 categories before readers voted on the final top 10 picks. New England was well represented on the list, with hotels in Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Vermont being honored in categories like Best Waterfront Hotel, Best Romantic Hotel, and Best Family Resort.

The highest-placed New England hotel across all categories was Ocean House in Watch Hill, R.I., which earned the No. 2 spot on the Best Waterfront Hotel list, and placed No. 5 on the Best Destination Resort list. Over the years, the luxury resort has won numerous awards from other travel publications as well.

“Ocean House offers an iconic New England seaside experience, complete with a full-service spa, Forbes Five Star-rated restaurant, a private beach with butler service, croquet lawn and squash courts,” USA Today wrote. “Daily resort activities include classes at the Center for Wine & Culinary Arts, movie screenings, sports clinics, morning fitness programs and guided tours of the resort property.”

Nantucket luxury hotel White Elephant also made the Waterfront Hotel list, finishing seventh.

Besides White Elephant, two Massachusetts hotels were honored: XV Beacon in Boston placed fourth on the Best Pet Friendly Hotel list, while Canyon Ranch Lenox placed 10th on the Best All-Inclusive Resort list.

“All four-legged guests are warmly welcomed at XV Beacon in Boston with a range of amenities for your pooch,” USA Today wrote. “Dogs receive a house-made dog biscuit at checkin, sleep in plush beds and enjoy a nightly turn down water service. The dog-friendly Boston Common is just a few steps away.”

Another standout was Hidden Pond, a luxury resort in Kennebunkport, Maine, which was the only other New England hotel besides Ocean House named on multiple lists. Hidden Pond placed third on the Best Destination Resort list and seventh on the Best Romantic Hotel list. Elsewhere in Maine, Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth made the Best Eco Friendly Hotel list, finishing 10th.

Rounding out New England was Vermont, which had a trio of hotels honored. New Life Hiking Spa in Killington placed fourth on the Best Wellness Retreat/Resort list, the spa at Woodstock Inn & Resort was fifth on the Best Hotel Spa list, and Smugglers’ Notch Resort placed sixth on the Best Family Resort list.

“New Life Hiking Spa is one of the oldest and best destination spa programs in the country, welcoming some 800 guests each season,” USA Today wrote. “Eleven-night weight loss retreats cater to 40 people at a time and include hiking programs for beginner through advanced fitness levels. Yoga, outdoor workouts and a healthy eating program round out the resort’s holistic approach to health and wellness.”
