Coden, Alabama-based company Johnson Sea Products has issued a recall for its frozen Home Style Crab Cakes due to undeclared ingredients.
The crab cakes, which come in 12-ounce black freezer tray packages, contain undeclared wheat and soy, Johnson Sea Products said. Consumers who have “allergies to wheat or soy run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” according to the company’s statement.
The Home Style Crab Cakes were distributed at retail throughout Alabama and Florida from 28 April to 11 May, 2020. The impacted products have a Julian date of 212220 stamped on the master case received by distributors and retailers, Johnson Sea Products said.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the applicable products, the company confirmed on 26 May. An investigation revealed that the products were not properly marked due to an out-dated sample label being accidentally utilized.
Each Home Style Crab Cakes package contains 4- to 3- ounce crab cakes. The outer labeling is embossed with “Johnson Sea Products Home Style Crab Cakes” in blue, white, and yellow letters.
Consumers who have purchased the products are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Anyone with questions may contact Johnson Sea Products at 1-251-824-2693.
