DeAndre Hopkins says he's the NFL's best wide receiver, expects better numbers with Cardinals - CBS Sports

DeAndre Hopkins believes he's the best wide receiver in the NFL. Now, he has the opportunity to prove it with the Arizona Cardinals

Hopkins will be paired with Kyler Murray for at least the next several seasons in Arizona, giving him the opportunity to match the catching totals of Julio Jones and Michael Thomas -- arguably the game's two best wide receivers, who have also played with the same quarterback their entire careers.

Before Deshaun Watson, Hopkins hasn't had that luxury. He's getting that in Arizona.

"I definitely think I'm the best," Hopkins said Thursday on Jalen & Jacoby, via ESPN's Josh Weinfuss. "I know I'm the best. Mike's my boy. I love Michael (Thomas) ... but he knows if I had Drew Brees my whole career what these numbers would be. Julio Jones knows if I had Matt Ryan my whole career. That's my boy. I trained with Julio, too. He knows what these numbers would be.

"Those guys are definitely blessed to be in a position where, their whole career, they had a Pro Bowl quarterback -- quarterback that they spent multiple seasons with. But I don't complain. I don't make excuses. I go out there and work."

Hopkins has 632 catches for 8,602 yards and 54 touchdowns in his seven-year career, catching balls from Matt Schaub, Case Keenum, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Ryan Mallett, Tom Savage, Brian Hoyer, T.J. Yates, and Brock Osweiler -- all who made starts for Houston before the franchise drafted Watson.

In the three seasons since Watson became the starting quarterback, Hopkins has 315 catches for 4,115 yards and 31 touchdowns. He's first in the league amongst wide receivers in touchdowns, second in catches, and third in yards -- this with Watson missing nine games in his rookie season due to a torn ACL. Hopkins was a First Team All-Pro all three seasons Watson was his starting quarterback, showcasing how good he can be when he has a consistent signal caller.

Thomas has played his entire career with Brees and Jones with Ryan. Hopkins is getting that chance with the Cardinals and planning to make the most of it.

"We're able to build a chemistry, and hopefully, I'm able to play more than three seasons with a quarterback," Hopkins said. "I don't think I've done that yet. So, I'm excited just to see how I'll be able to play with a consistent quarterback."
